Beautiful city of shrines and the places to visit in Kathmandu

Nepal is one beautiful landlocked multilingual, multiethnic, multi religious country in Asia nestled in the lap of gigantic Himalayan range. Nepal is popular all around the globe for its rich culture, heritage and its abundance of natural beauty. Kathmandu – the capital city has many places to visit and is one of the most popular places in Nepal. Kathmandu zealously protects and guards the ancient traditions but embraces modern technology as well. Some of the most famous places to visit in Kathmandu are Boudhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, Kathmandu Durbar and Swayambhunath Temple.

Boudhanath Stupa is the largest stupa in Nepal situated 7km from Kathmandu. This massive 36 meter high stupa dominates the skyline of the city and is visible from far. This is one of the most famous places to visit in Kathmandu and is also one of the UNESCO Heritage Sites in Kathmandu. Another UNESCO Heritage Site in Kathmandu is Pashupatinath Temple that draws in thousands of pilgrims and devotees every day. It is one of the oldest temples in Kathmandu and also the most visited.

Kathmandu Durbar Square is also a UNESCO Heritage Site and holds great historic significance. When Nepal was a monarch country the kingly coronations were done at this place. Though no coronations take place these days but this place is flooded with people during festivals in Kathmandu. Also called as the monkey temple of Kathmandu, the Swayambhunath Temple is situated about 3km from Kathmandu and is one of the holiest Buddhist stupas in Nepal.  This ancient temple is believed to have been built in 13th Century. It is also one of the most visited and famous places to visit in Kathmandu Nepal.
